SUNSET PARK — Work is underway for the Brooklyn Nets' $45 million, 70,000 square-foot training facility set to open in Sunset Park next year — creating basketball courts, swimming pools, a rooftop entertainment space and a multimedia theater, according to officials and reports.

The facility, to be located in a 39th Street warehouse near Second Avenue in Industry City, will occupy the building’s eighth floor and rooftop and will offer views of the waterfront and Manhattan.

Construction is slated to begin this summer and the center is scheduled to open for the 2015-2016 season.

The new facility will seal the team’s move to Brooklyn from New Jersey after it officially relocated to the Barclays Center in 2012. The Nets basketball operations department is currently based at a practice site in New Jersey, but plan to relocate to the new hub next season.

Nets officials said the space will also be available for community use and will host internship programs, basketball clinics, events and local business fairs.

"HSS Training Center will be serving world-class athletes, while also making a difference in the borough as we utilize the facility to mentor and inspire young Brooklynites," said Brett Yormark, CEO of the Nets and Barclays Center. Officials said the center was being paid for with private funding, but declined to say who was paying for its construction.

The facility will be named the “Hospital for Special Surgery Training Center,” in honor of the Hospital for Special Surgery on the Upper East Side, which is the official physical therapy provider for the team.

The facility will include two full basketball courts, a weight room, a training pool and two hydro pools. It will also feature a rooftop entertainment deck, an 18-seat theater and 3,000 square feet dedicated to a players' lounge and media workroom.

Materials like recycled wood and tiles will create a “spa-like environment” for the new center, officials said, while also honoring “Brooklyn’s gritty manufacturing history” with exposed ceilings and air ducts and preserving the building’s original masonry and brick finishes, officials said.

The “state-of-the-art training center will be envy of the National Basketball Association,” said Nets’ announcer David Diamante at a press conference Thursday morning.
