CHELSEA — Italian gelato shop Amorino will open its second American location in July, bringing its signature flower-shaped scoops to Chelsea.
The new spot at 162 Eighth Ave. will sell cones and cups of the intricately-sculpted gelato, along with milkshakes, gelato-filled waffles and crepes, and Focaccina — a soft brioche served either hot or cold and filled with gelato.
The gelateria will also serve macaron sandwiches, based on the popular French cookie, which will have a spoonful of gelato served between two almond-flavored shells.
The flower shape of the gelato — made to order with a spatula and layered with different flavors — means customers can get a huge variety in a single cone.
“We have a full menu of 23 flavors and we can serve as many flavors as the customer wants in the shape of a flower,” said Filippo Saccani, the CEO of Amorino USA.
The chain has more than 100 locations in Europe and opened its first American spot near NYU in 2011.
The chain sources natural ingredients for every flavor — using Alphonso mangoes from India and lemon from the Amalfi Coast. Amorino will also have a rotating seasonal flavor that changes every month.
“We use organic eggs, fresh whole milk, and no artificial coloring or flavoring,” Saccani said. “It's a luxury experience."
