THE BRONX — A homeless man was left unconscious with brain and skull injuries four days after a group of men kicked him in the head as he slept on the steps of St. Nicholas Tolentine Church, police said.

In a graphic video released by police, the 41-year-old man, whose name was not released, can be seen lying near the Catholic church, at West Fordham Road and University Avenue, when the three men surround him and harass him just after 10 p.m. on June 19, the NYPD said.

Suddenly, two of the men kick and stomp on the man's head, the video shows. They leave momentarily, but one man then doubles back to again attack the helpless man and then calmly walk away, the video shows.

The victim has been unconscious since he arrived at St. Barnabas hospital, a police spokesman said.

The suspect who first approached the victim was wearing a bubble vest with a baseball cap, video shows.

The second man then approached wearing what appeared to be a light colored bucket hat and carrying either a cigarette or cigar that was lit, video shows.

The third man wore a T-shirt and backwards baseball cap, according to the video.

The church could not be immediately reached for comment.
