FORT WADSWORTH — The upper level of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will have full and partial overnight closures next week, the MTA said.
From Monday until next Saturday, the MTA will close the upper level of the bridge so workers can remove and install new steel sign gantries, the MTA said.
For three nights, both sides of the upper level will be closed to traffic overnight, though drivers will still be able to use the lower level to cross the bridge, the MTA said.
On Monday through Friday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., all three lanes will be closed on the eastbound side towards Brooklyn, and on Saturday one lane will be closed from 12:01 a.m. to 7 a.m., the MTA said.
On the westbound side towards Staten Island, the upper level will have one lane closed from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, and all three lanes closed Tuesday to Friday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. All three lanes will also be closed on Saturday from 12:01 a.m. to 8 a.m., the MTA said.
The work on the bridge will be dependent on the weather, the MTA said. Vehicles carrying hazardous materials won't be able to cross the bridge during the full closures and will need to use alternative routes, the MTA said.
