MIDTOWN — The TGI Fridays restaurant across from Madison Square Garden is closing in September, according to documents filed with the state.

The 14,400-square-foot spot at 484 Eighth Ave. was originally going to shut down in January, Eater reported, but now it will close on Sept. 7, according to a recent filing with the state Department of Labor. Eighty-three non-union workers will be laid off when the eatery closes, the filing said.

The restaurant is owned by Riese Restaurants, which also owns 10 other Friday's locations around the city.

The building's owner, Vornado Realty Trust, recently decided to get rid of another one of Riese's TGI Friday's locations, nearby in Penn Station, according to Crain's New York Business. Vornado also dumped some of Riese's fast-food restaurants in the station as well, Crain's reported.

The Eighth Avenue location is now up for lease on Vornado's web site. A spokeswoman for the company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Staff at the restaurant could not speak about its closure.  Riese and TGI Fridays did not respond to a request for comment.
