MOTT HAVEN — A mother was arrested for abandoning her baby son on a South Bronx street corner, police said.

Diana Paniagua, 29, was charged with reckless endangerment and abandonment of a child, according to the NYPD.

Her son, who is about 2 years old, was discovered on East 141st Street and Rider Avenue about 5:30 a.m. Monday by Long Island resident Jason Alexander, who was in the city delivering propane.

Alexander noticed a stroller on the street corner and decided to check it out to see if a child was inside.

"I said, 'Let me go take a look and make sure there’s not a kid in that stroller,'" he said. "And there was."

The child was taken to Lincoln Hospital for observation and is now in the custody of the Administration for Children's Services, police said.

Alexander was upset when he saw the child but grateful he was in a safer place, he said.

"He'll be taken care of now, be in good hands," Alexander said.
