BROOKLYN — A 16-year-old boy was shot next to his apartment building and managed to stagger about a block to a nearby NYPD precinct stationhouse before collapsing and later dying, police said.

Laquan Nelson was in a walkway between his Bed-Stuy apartment building in Lafayette Gardens, at 345 Classon Ave., and an adjoining one when he was shot in the torso about 5:45 p.m., the NYPD said.

Police discovered Nelson outside the 88th Precinct's stationhouse at 298 Classon Ave., and took him to Brooklyn Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the NYPD said.

The circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear and no arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning.

Police said their investigation was ongoing.
