MOUNT HOPE — It's the Seamless of drug stores.
A new pharmacy that opened on the Grand Concourse Thursday is taking the medicine right to your front door — free of charge.
Owner Sam Dasari chose to open Concourse Pharmacy, near 176th Street, in Mount Hope to make medicine more accessible to seniors who had difficulty walking down stairs or a fear of walking around with expensive prescriptions.
“There are so many older people and geriatric patients in this area,” Dasari said. “They need a pharmacy.”
Apart from offering free delivery services, the pharmacy will work closely with hospitals to create detailed personalized medicine packages that tell patients exactly how much to take and when.
The packages are color-coordinated to indicate which meals they should be taken with and on which day of the week.
When delivered, the packages are tracked to make sure they are delivered on time and to the right person, pharmacists Talha Azeem said.
“Retail pharmacies don’t do this,” he added. "The idea is to provide patients with the best medicine in a safe way."
The opening featured a local DJ and food from the East Harlem Latin restaurant Sabor Borinqueno.
Dasari has has three pharmacies in Manhattan and one more in The South Bronx. He runs all of them with the same community approach but this is the first time he has used the new packaging system.
