BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — A fake traffic jam in Bed-Stuy set up for HBO's "Girls" backed up real traffic on Bedford Avenue Monday.

Monroe Street was closed between Bedford and Franklin avenues starting at 11 a.m. Monday for a traffic jam scene, in which Ray Ploshansky, played by actor Alex Karpovsky, argues with a driver for beeping his horn excessively.

In the fourth-season scene, Karpovsky runs out of a building near Franklin and Monroe yelling at the driver, who in one take responded by screaming, "Look, a--hole, I don't know who made you mayor, but I can honk if I want to!"

"Girls" creator Lena Dunham, who has long used Brooklyn as the show's backdrop, was on location but did not take part in the scene.

With the street closed, cars driving west on Monroe Street were forced to turn onto Bedford Avenue, slowing northbound traffic on the avenue throughout the afternoon.

Signs on that stretch of Monroe Street and eight other blocks in the surrounding area announced that cars parked in certain spots would be towed to legal spots, and apologized for the inconvenience.

"We understand that filming can be somewhat disruptive, and we appreciate your cooperation," the signs read. "As guests in your neighborhood, we will make every effort to be respectful of the daily routine of the community."

Some neighbors remained annoyed by the show's presence.

"It inconvenienced me," said one Monroe Street resident, who refused to give his name. "I had to park all the way up the street, and I have a bad back."

Others were unfazed, and even stood around shooting photos and video of the scene.

"I'm down with it," said Monroe Street resident Rachel Lifter, 30, who watched the shoot from her stoop. "I like 'Girls.'"
