THE BRONX — A 1-year-old girl was in critical condition after her father found her in an overflowing bathtub, police said.

The girl, whose name was not released, was taking a bath with her 3-year-old brother inside their Selwyn Avenue apartment about 9:20 a.m.  Wednesday when their dad left the room.

He found her unconscious after a neighbor complained water was leaking into the apartment below, an NYPD spokesman said.

He scooped her up and ran to nearby Bronx-Lebanon Hospital where she has been listed in critical condition since, police said.

No arrests have been made, but the NYPD said their investigation is ongoing. The Administration for Children's Services also said that it would investigate, according to a spokeswoman.

The tub's stopper was not in place to block the drain when the father put the kids in the bath, a police spokesman said. But the drain somehow became blocked when he left them alone

An NYPD spokesman said that the family had not been subject to any previous ACS investigations.
