LOWER EAST SIDE — Russ & Daughters Cafe is opening to the public on Wednesday, giving customers a chance to sit down and relax while enjoying the 100-year-old shop's smoked fish specialties.

The 65-seat cafe at 127 Orchard St. will evoke the main Russ & Daughters location on Houston Street, complete with a neon sign and a slicing counter, where customers can watch employees fillet their fish.

The fourth-generation family business will serve plates of lox and other smoked fish, and it will also have “an old-school soda fountain” making egg creams, co-owner Niki Russ Federman told The Daily Meal last fall.

In addition, the restaurant will serve salads, cocktails, wines and dessert, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.

The cafe is set to open on May 7, a worker said, but has not yet announced its hours.
