BRONX — The New York Botanical Garden is set to host a spring wine festival in its Native Plant Garden this weekend — pairing local wines with education about plants from the area.
Attendees will get to taste more than 30 wines from New York state and elsewhere and take tours of the Native Plant Garden. The weekend will also feature live acoustic music from folk singer Milton and presentations from winemaking and wine pairing experts.
The wine tastings will occur from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. near the entrance to the Native Plant Garden, while workshops on winemaking and grapevine cultivation will take place on the hour from noon to 4 p.m. in the Native Plant Garden Education Pavilion.
There will be tours of the Azalea Garden as well at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., which will meet at the Reflecting Pool. Additionally, guides will wander through the Native Plant Garden to interact with visitors and answer questions.
Small free samples of salami, cheese and crackers will be at the event from the wineries and vendors like Mike's Deli. People will also be able to purchase sandwiches and salads from Starr Events, the official food supplier for the Botanical Garden.
Participating wineries include Brooklyn Oenology, Casa Larga Vineyards from Fairport, N.Y. and Barefoot Wine & Bubbly from Modesto, California.
The New York Botanical Garden is located at 2900 Southern Blvd.. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for children between two and 12. Children under 2 and members get in for free. All adults who are 21 or older and plan to drink alcohol at the festival will have to show ID when entering.
