MANHATTAN — Students had to be evacuated from an East Village middle school Wednesday morning after a fire broke out inside a bathroom there, officials said.

Students were rushed out of Technology, Arts and Sciences Studio middle school, at 185 First Ave., about 10:46 a.m. and taken to nearby East Side Community High School, at 420 East 12th St., according to FDNY and Department of Education officials.

No one was injured in the fire which was brought under control about 11:13 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

It was not immediately clear what sparked it.

The middle school enrolls 159 students in grades six through eight, according to the school's website.

The East Village evacuation came just hours after schools at 800 Van Siclen were evacuated about 9:30 a.m. when someone called in a bomb threat to the campus, the NYPD and DOE said.

The campus holds J.H.S. 166, which enrolls 223 students in grades six through eight, as well as the UFT Charter School, which teaches kids in kindergarten through eighth grade, according to their respective websites.

Students were brought to nearby schools, officials said. Police responded to the scene, but the result of their investigation were not immediately clear, an NYPD spokesman said.
