INWOOD — An Inwood Citibank had to be shut down for a short period Thursday afternoon after a man attempted to rob it, sources said.

The Citibank at 4955 Broadway near West 207th Street was briefly shut down after a robber entered around 1 p.m. and passed a note to the teller demanding money, sources said. The tellers called police, and the robber fled.

Witnesses said several squad cars and police vans arrived on scene after the attempted heist, and customers were turned away from the bank.

Police did not immediately have information about the incident.
