ST. GEORGE — A selfie campaign is asking Staten Islanders to take shots of themselves in their favorite spots in the borough.

Borough President James Oddo is asking residents to snap themselves around Staten Island landmarks and post the pictures on social media, with the tag #siselfie.

"Selfies are a pretty self-centered, self-absorbed thing when you think about it," Oddo said.

"We are kind of hijacking the phenomenon not to highlight ourselves as individuals, but to showcase our island and the good people and great places in it."

He asked residents to include a caption stating where they are, and why its their favorite spot in the borough.

Oddo kicked off the campaign with a selfie of himself with his staff in front of Borough Hall.

"We’re hoping this catches on," he said.

"It’s a fun way to use social media to boost the pride Staten Islanders have in our hometown."
