QUEENS — Four young adults were killed Friday night in a tragic accident after the car they were riding in struck a curb and plunged into Steinway Creek, police said.

Jaleel Furtado, 20, Crystal Gravely, 19, Jada Monique Butts, 19 and Darius Fletcher, 21, who all lived within blocks of one another in East Elmhurst, died after being submerged in a 2009 Honda Accord, driven by a 20-year-old friend, police and reports stated.

The driver, who was not identified by police, but managed to get out and call 911, was headed westbound on 19th Avenue near 37th Street around 10:37 p.m. police said, when he hit a curb and flipped the car into the creek, which is a tributary of the East River.

The FDNY rushed to the scene and extricated the four victims from the Accord, with two of the women and one man being rushed to Elmhurst Hospital, and the fourth male being sent to Mt. Sinai.

All four were pronounced dead on arrival. The driver was being examined at Elmhurst General Hospital, police said.
