MIDTOWN  — More than 100 firefighters battled a blaze inside a former clothing store on 34th Street that was under construction Thursday morning, the FDNY said.

Smoke spilled out of 245 W. 34th St., which was a Conway clothing store until about a month ago, after the fire began in a space between the ceiling and roof about 8:15 a.m., according to neighbors and FDNY battalion chief Nicholas Borrillo.

One firefighter was treated for minor injuries at the scene, an FDNY spokesman said.

The flames were brought under control about 9:43 a.m., the spokesman added.

Investigators were still trying to determine what sparked the fire.

The space had been under construction since Conway vacated sometime in February, according to a man who had worked next door for about two years.
