ASTORIA — Police are looking for a driver who struck a man as he tried to cross Northern Boulevard, and fled the scene, leaving the victim lying in the street with severe injuries, police said.

Kumar Ragunath, 64, of Jamaica, was crossing Northern Boulevard at 41st Road from the south to the north, when a westbound dark colored Chevy Blazer ran into him on the roadway where he was walking outside of a crosswalk, police said.

After striking Ragunath, who was thrown to the ground and suffered severe head injuries and a broken leg, the driver took off on Northern Boulevard, police said.

The victim was rushed to Elmhurst Medical Center, and after suffering in critical conditions finally succumbed to his injures, police said.

Police said an investigation was ongoing, and that no arrests had been made.
