QUEENS — A man and woman died when their Audi careened off the Long Island Expressway and into a tree in Flushing Tuesday morning, police said.
The pair, whose names were not released, were heading west on the expressway about 1 a.m. when they passed Utopia Parkway, veered off the road, flipped onto the car's side and slammed into a tree before Kissena Boulevard, the NYPD said.
The man had been behind the wheel of the Audi and the woman was sitting in the passenger's seat at the time of the crash, police said.
The two were pronounced dead at the scene, the NYPD said.
It was not immediately clear why the car veered off the road.
