MIDTOWN — Thieves took a handful of luxury timepieces worth more than $700,000 in a brazen midday Midtown robbery, an NYPD spokesman said.

The masked thieves wielding hammers smashed a glass case at Cartier's Fifth Avenue shop, at 52nd Street, and snatched 16 watches about 12:30 p.m., police said.

Their haul was valued at $709,000, a police spokesman said.

There were between three and five suspects and police were investigating if they fled in a red Honda Civic and a silver sedan, the spokesman said.

The suspects hadn't been arrested as of Friday morning, police said.
