Man Dies in Police Custody on Upper East Side

UPPER EAST SIDE — A man died in the custody of the NYPD on Sunday morning, and an internal affairs team was investigating the details surrounding the man's death, the NYPD said.

Edward Soto, 51, was found unconscious at 10:08 a.m. in the holding cell area of the 19th Precinct stationhouse, the NYPD said.

He had been taken into custody earlier for criminal tresspassing, police said.

Soto was rushed to Presbyterian Hospital, but declared dead on arrival. The cause of death was pending a Medical Examiner's report, police said.
