MIDTOWN — A minor track fire near Penn Station snarled the Friday rush hour commute on the Long Island Rail Road and New Jersey Transit, the fire department and MTA said.

The fire broke out a little after 4:00 p.m. and caused delays on the LIRR, according to the MTA's website. New Jersey Transit trains were also experiencing 45 to 60 minute delays entering and leaving Penn Station.

A disabled train in the East River tunnel also briefly halted westbound LIRR service between Jamaica and Penn Station.

There were still residual delays on the Babylon, Port Washington, Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma lines at 6:40 p.m.

The fire was under control by 5:10 p.m., the fire department said, and they were working to clear smoke from the tracks.

There were no injuries.
