CHELSEA — When you get bored with the fireplace, just head to the private pool.

Construction has begun at developer SR Capital's new 44-unit residential development on West 21st Street, where luxe multimillion-dollar penthouses will each have double-sided wood-burning fireplaces. One of the penthouses will have its own private 4,000-square-foot terrace with a swimming pool, kitchenette and bar.

The 19-story condo building at 551 W. 21st St., by design firm Foster + Partners, will offer units ranging from two to five bedrooms. There will be three full-floor, 6,200-square-foot penthouses with 12-foot ceilings.

Just steps from the Hudson River, the building will offer sweeping views of the water and the surrounding West Chelsea area.

The building's first two floors on its west side will also be the new home of the 303 Gallery, currently at 504 W. 24th St.

Many new luxury developments — complete with high-end amenities — are expected to come online in West Chelsea over the next few years. Nearby on West 29th Street, Blackhouse Development is constructing a building with indoor pools in each of its 27 condos

Sales at 551 W. 21st St. will start next month, with construction expected to finish in 2015. According to Curbed, the units will be listed for $5.75 million to $17.5 million, with penthouses costing up to $35 million. The building will be marketed by Brown Harris Stevens.
