Man Pretending to Be Police Officer Steals Cash From Teen, NYPD Says

MANHATTAN — A man claiming to be an undercover police officer stole cash from a teenager at a Greenwich Village eatery last month, police said.

The suspect approached a 19-year-old customer and another man at Maoz Vegetarian restaurant, 59 E. Eighth St., at about 8:15 p.m. Dec. 15, police said. The suspect claimed he was an undercover police officer and asked the teen to hand over his wallet and identification, police said.

The teen gave the man the money in his wallet, and the man handed some of it back to him but then fled with the rest, police said.
