THE BRONX —  A cement construction truck crashed into a two-story University Heights house Monday night, killing the driver, injuring four others and causing structural instability in the building, the fire department said.

The damage caused by the heavy equipment truck frustrated emergency responders ability to extract the unidentified driver and search the home for victims.

Two people suffered serious, but non-life threatening, injuries and two others had unspecified minor injuries, after the accident happened at 1970 Cedar Avenue about 6:21 p.m., the fire department said.

It was not initially clear if any more people were injured inside the building because responders were having problems entering the residence for fear of a potential structural collapse, the fire department added.

A firefighter also suffered minor injuries.

Con Edison planned to shut off electricity in the building, the fire department said.

Two adjacent buildings were also evacuated.

There were also heavy delays on the Major Deegan Expressway because of accident, which closed the west 179th Street exit, the Office of Emergency Management tweeted.
