
MANHATTAN — A straphanger was killed under the J train Monday afternoon at the Essex Street subway station in the East Village, transit officials said.
The unidentified person was struck about 5:47 p.m. by a Southbound train, according to an MTA spokesman.
The fatality disrupted train traffic through the station.
The transit authority halted J train service between the Broad Street and Marcy Avenue stations, officials said.
M train service will halt between the Myrtle Avenue station on citybound trains and at the Broadway/Lafayette Street station for trains headed to Brooklyn.
