Thief Snatches Woman's Wallet as She Exits Train Near City Hall: NYPD

LOWER MANHATTAN — Police were searching for a man who swiped a wallet from a woman’s purse as she exited a subway stop near City Hall Wednesday morning.

The 28-year-old victim was walking out of the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall subway station, which serves the 4, 5, 6, J and Z lines, at about 8:35 a.m. when a man approached her from behind on the staircase and grabbed her wallet from her handbag, police said. He then fled toward City Hall Park.

The woman was not injured, police said.

Police described the suspect as a 40 to 50-year-old man, 5-foot-11, weighing about 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and a brown shirt with green writing, police said.
