BROOKLYN — Biscuits aren't just for breakfast anymore.

The city's first shuffleboard club, where players will push disks called "biscuits" down a court, is gearing up to open at 514 Union St., near Nevins Street, in Gowanus.

The Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club is hosting a series of sneak preview "soft opening" nights this week for the club's Facebook friends. The club aims open to the general public at the end of the month, co-owner Ashley Albert told DNAinfo New York.

The club — which faced opposition from neighbors who worried that it would bring noise and crowds — will host shuffleboard leagues on its 10 courts. It will also have live music and serve cocktails and food, some of it from a food truck parked in an indoor food truck bay.

Other comings and going on the local retail and restaurant scene include the following:

Fort Reno BBQ at 669 Union St. near Fourth Avenue has closed and will be replaced by a new taqueria by the chef from nearby Palo Santo restaurant, Here's Park Slope reported.

The new taqueria, which doesn't have a name yet, will serve $3 tacos with fillings including chorizo, duck mole, mushroom, cactus, fried avocado, grilled fish, and pork surtido, which is "made with offal and other uncommon cuts," according to Here's Park Slope.

The neighborhood still has plenty of BBQ options. Fort Reno opened in 2012 and two other barbecue restaurants — Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and Fletcher's Brooklyn Barbecue — opened just blocks away shortly afterward.

Eidolon, the women's clothing, shoes and accessories boutique at 233 Fifth Ave. near Carroll Street, is closing this month, Park Slope Stoop reported. Owner Amara Felice said in a Facebook post that she opened the store in 1999 when "rents were cheap" but that sales have slumped in recent years and she couldn't afford to keep the business going anymore.

E Lingerie by Enelra, the bra shop at 140 Fifth Ave. and St. John's Place, is going out of business, and the bridal boutique Sposabella Couture at 69 Fifth Ave. closed last month and relocated to 252 West 40th St. in Manhattan.

Leske's Bakery closed its 588 Fifth Ave. location recently after just 10 months in business, South Slope News reported. The bakery's original Bay Ridge location is still open.
