CARROLL GARDENS — A new Court Street restaurant is bringing the taste of south India to Carroll Gardens.

Dosa Royale opened at 316 Court St. in late December, serving "strictly south Indian" food, said Heather Rajamani, who owns the restaurant with her husband, Thiru.

Their menu features a selection of dosas, a crispy Indian pancake made with black lentils and rice batter, savory rice cakes, fried lentil doughnuts (vadas) and fish and lamb curries.

The thali — a platter with small portions of rice, vegetables and meats — is one of Dosa Royale’s early favorites, said Rajamani.

“People are happy for something different,” she said.

Along with food, the restaurant mixes cocktails with an Indian twist. There's a "Pondicherry Punch," a "Royale Gimlet" served with pink peppercorns and "Kovai Express," a drink mixed with rye, Carpano sweet vermouth and cardamom bitters.

This is the first brick-and-mortar location for Dosa Royale, which the Carroll Gardens couple started as a food stall at Smorgasburg.

Dosas and cocktails are priced between $10 to $18.

Another recent opening in the neighborhood is popular Thai restaurant Spice. It opened a new location in Cobble Hill this past weekend at 193 Smith St., Pardon Me For Asking first reported.

It's the restaurant’s second Brooklyn location.
