PARK SLOPE — From Hammer Time to velvet Elvis, a bar celebrating America's cheesiest pop culture cornerstones is inviting patrons to help make its new Park Slope location even tackier.

The new watering hole American Cheez is encouraging patrons to donate their cheesiest artifacts to adorn the bar's walls, which curently feature posters of MC Hammer in his parachute pants, 1980s hair metal bands, and an Elvis Presley portrait on black velvet.

"We want a place that's chock-filled with the cheesiest, tackiest, ugliest stuff we can find," co-owner Brad Perrine said. "We don't want to take ourselves too seriously."

The venue's new home, at 444 Seventh Ave. near 15th Street, formerly housed Bar 4, which closed in August 2013.

In the spirit of Williamsburg's Alligator Lounge, American Cheez will also serve patrons free 10-inch cheese pizza with every drink purchase. Toppings are available for $1 each.

"Nobody doesn't like free pizza," Perrine said.

Other recent comings and goings in the neighborhood's restaurant and retail scene include the following:

A'Putia, a Sicilian bakery selling cannoli, has opened at 179 Fifth Ave. near Berkeley Place, Here's Park Slope reported. A'Putia also serves Italian panini, cappucino and handmade focaccia, according to the shop's Facebook page.

• A bar and grill called Brooklyn Colony has replaced Garfield's at 274 Fourth Ave., near Garfield Place, according to a statement from the owners. The bar "bridges the gap betweeen sports bar and cocktail lounge" with multiple large-screen TVs, a pool table, a full kitchen, and brunch on weekends, according to the announcement.

• Japanese restaurant Shamisen opened recently at 384 Fifth Ave., near Sixth Street. The eatery took over the space last occupied by bagel shop Brooklyn Bread.

Red Horse Café, the coffee shop at 497 Sixth Ave. near 12th Street, has closed after seven years in business.
