QUEENS — Kids in Forest Hills will kick off the holiday season with a gingerbread house-making party this Sunday.

My Kitchen, at 106-17 Metropolitan Ave., is inviting children and their parents to an event, during which they will transform ordinary brown dough into glittering and colorful gingerbread extravaganza.

Dhanny Palma, one of the restaurant's owners, said that she has been making gingerbread houses with her daughter for many years. Last winter, she organized a gingerbread house making party for her friends, and said it was fun for both kids and their parents.

“So I thought this year I’ll have it at the restaurant,” she said.

My Kitchen will provide gingerbread houses, which kids will decorate with a variety of frostings and sweets, including jelly beans and hard candy.

“Kids will design it their own way,” Palma said. After the decorations dry, children will be able to take their houses home, Palma said.

“The idea is also that the parents spend time with their kids and they have fun together,” Palma said.

Gingerbread House Making Party will take place on Sunday, Dec. 15, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Cost: $20 per child (gingerbread houses, decorations and snacks included). Parent must accompany children.
