FORT GREENE — Customers can now get a haircut with their slice of red velvet cake on Fulton Street in Fort Greene.

Soon Beauty Lab, named after owner Melissa Soon, recently opened next door to Piece of Velvet — run by former Cake Man Raven staff —  offering haircuts, color, styling, and other services for prices ranging from $60 for basic haircuts to $300 for keratin hair treatments.

"Fort Greene could use a new beauty salon," Soon said. "As we were opening, so many people stopped by to say they were glad we moved to the neighborhood."

Located at 708 Fulton St., the former Alcon National Driving Center space, Soon Beauty Lab celebrated their grand opening in Fort Greene on Nov. 13.

The salon is new to Fort Greene but not new to the hair business. Soon opened her first salon in the East Village 15 years ago and the spot quickly became a "neighborhood salon," she said.

"People know us and they come back year after year," she said.

The salon has since expanded to host locations in Flatiron and Carroll Gardens — but Soon has had her eye on Fort Greene for years.

"I love this neighborhood," she said. "I have two small children and we use the park a lot. I partly opened the salon here because I want to hang out in Fort Greene more."
