QUEENS — A Howard Johnson hotel opened in Jamaica last week, becoming the most recent major hotel chain that has moved into the neighborhood.

The 7-story hotel, located at Archer Avenue and 139th Street, directly behind the AirTrain station, has 61 guest rooms, said the owner, Vipul Patel.

“The reason we chose this location is that it’s easy to commute to the airport,” Patel said. “It also takes only 30 minutes to Manhattan by subway and it's even faster by the LIRR.”

The prices at the 3-star hotel start at $109.99 for a room with one queen-size bed.

The hotel, Patel said, aims to serve business travelers by providing them with a meeting room and a 24-hour business center with free Wi-Fi.

A number of new hotels were built in the area since the AirTrain station opened in downtown Jamaica in 2003, including a Quality Inn on 94th Avenue and a Sleep Inn on Liberty Avenue.

Two more hotels are planned for the neighborhood, including a Sheraton.
