GREENPOINT — If fashion got its own night out, why shouldn't another New York staple: coffee?

That question prompted Greenpoint coffee blogger Chermelle Edwards to create the first "Coffee's Night Out" on Nov. 10, spotlighting independent cafes in an evening of performances at the cozy Java havens.

"There is life in culture; and culture teems in, and because of, the coffee shop," said Edwards, who runs the blog smdlr.com and partnered with the blog Greenpointers for the event. "I thought it was time for a coffee to have its own night out, and for the culture that's inspired by the space within independent coffee shops to have a curated voice."

Spoken word, music, visual art and drink deals are among the specials headed to nine neighborhood cafes on the celebratory night, and caffeinated revelers can plot out their routes on a map of the establishments. Spots include Cafe Grumpy, Anella, Charlotte Patisserie, Champion Coffee and SPINA.

"We will be having a group art show of work by our baristas," said Caroline Bell, the owner of Cafe Grumpy. "We will also be offering bring a friend for coffee, buy one get one on us."

Greenpointers blogger Jen Galotioto, working with Edwards to host the event, said the maps encouraged people to "crawl to participating coffee shops."

"It's going to be fantastic. Chermelle worked very closely with each shop owner to come up with cultural events in each shop and we are finalizing the list of events to announce soon," Galotioto said. "This is the first Coffee's Night Out ever. And we are so happy it is debuting in Greenpoint."
