WASHINGTON HEIGHTS — A fire erupted in the basement of an apartment building Wednesday morning, the FDNY said.

About 60 firefighters raced to the brick apartment building on West 187th Street, near St. Nicholas Avenue, about 8:20 a.m., a fire spokesman said.

One person refused medical attention at the scene and another was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital with minor injuries, he added.

The blaze was brought under control about 9:15 a.m. and its cause is still under investigation, the FDNY said.
