INWOOD — A Broadway lingerie shop is raising money for breast cancer research by auctioning off elaborate undergarments.
Brazen Lingerie owner Anina Young, who has been on a crusade to raise awareness of the prevalence of breast cancer, will hold a silent auction this Saturday with items including a forest-themed bra complete with deer and working lights, a Statue of Liberty bra, and other knockouts.
Bidding for the hand-decorated offerings will start at $25. The event kicks off at Inwood Local, at 4957 Broadway, and runs from 6 - 9 p.m.
Young, who said the ideas for the bras came from Inwood residents, as well as reps from local businesses including Dichter Pharmacy, Indian Road Cafe, and Darling Coffee, said she was delighted to see what the bra designers came up with.
"I had no idea how creative my friends were," Young said.
All proceeds will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Young said too many lives have been affected by breast cancer.
"You just have no idea how many people it's affected," said Young, who dyed her hair purple for the month of October in order to grab strangers' attention so she can remind them of the importance of regular exams. "Almost everyone knows someone, or they have a friend-of-a-friend, who had to deal with it."
If the auction is successful, Young hasn't ruled out running a similar event to fund prostate cancer research.
"Maybe we'll decorate boxer briefs," she said.
