GOWANUS — Shoppers thirsty after foraging for gourmet provisions at Brooklyn's first Whole Foods store will be able to guzzle beers at a rooftop bar.

The high-end grocery store — slated to open later this year at Third Street and Third Avenue — will have a rooftop café serving brews on tap and food.

The venue, first reported by Eater, will treat customers to a view of the polluted Gowanus Canal and the Manhattan skyline with both indoor and outdoor seating, a spokesman said.

The beer menu will include both local and American craft labels such as Evil Twin, Sixpoint, Captain Lawrence, Stillwater, and Westbrook Brewing. A "hyperlocal" food menu is still in development, but offerings will likely include burgers, shared plates, sides, and baked goods, with vegetarian and vegan options.

The menu will highlight New York cheeses such as Keeley’s Across the Pond, Sprout Creek and Twin Maple Farms, as well as jams from Anarchy in a Jar and condiments from Sir Kensington. The Gowanus pickle manufacturer Brooklyn Brine and bacon purveyor Brooklyn Cured will also be featured.

The cafe, to be named The Roof, isn't the only activity happening atop the new store. A rooftop garden operated by Gotham Greens will grow produce to be sold at the store.

The Gowanus Whole Foods, which will be the store's first location in Brooklyn, is expected to open by the end of the year. The store recently started hiring to fill more than 300 jobs.
