MANHATTAN SUPREME COURT — An undercover officer with the Intelligence Division was arrested Tuesday night on charges that he was involved in a gang assault on a Manhattan father after a road-rage confrontation with motorcyclists on the Henry Hudson Parkway.

Det. Wojciech Braszczok, 32, of Queens, surrendered to authorities and was charged with riot and criminal mischief.

As previously reported by On the Inside, the officer was off-duty at the time of the Sept. 29 attack and came forward to his superiors a few days afterward, according to sources familiar with the Internal Affairs investigation.

His lawyer told investigators that Braszczok, who was the fifth person to be arrested in connection to the incident, was among the cyclists who followed Alexian Lien and his family as they fled up the highway to escape a group of bikers who had surrounded his car.

In an Internet video that has since gone viral, the motorcyclists can be seen chasing Lien from about West 125th Street to West 178th Street, smashing his windows, pulling him from the Range Rover, then beating as his wife and 18-month-old daughter sat terrified in the car.

Lien suffered cuts above both eyes, on his cheeks and scrapes to his hands, back and shoulders, his wife said.

Braszczok told the NYPD that he did not stop the attack or alert authorities of the assault because he did not want to blow his undercover identity, sources said. He said that the beat-down was over by the time he arrived.

That claim could be undermined by a video that has recently surfaced that shows him pounding on the SUV's windows, sources say.

He was placed on modified duty and stripped of his gun and badge. Braszczok, who is one of six off-duty officers who attended the Sept. 29 motorcycle rally, was awaiting arraignment Tuesday night.

Cops also arrested 32-year-old Clint Caldwell of Flatbush Tuesday for assaulting Lien, they said. He was awaiting charges Wednesday morning of gang assault, assault, and criminal mischief.

The Manhattan District Attorney's office has charged four other men for their involvement in the attack, including Craig Wright, 29, who was arraigned earlier Tuesday on charges that he stomped on Lien's head and body after dragging him out of the Range Rover.

He is being held on $150,000 bond.

Christopher Cruz, Reginald Chance and Robert Sims were also charged in the incident.

Still others remained at large.

Police released photos Tuesday of several other men they would like to speak to about the attack.

Sources say that at least six off-duty officers were at the rally and perhaps as many or more city corrections officers were also there.
