NEW YORK CITY — He's no American gangster.

A homeless man claiming to be Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington was arrested for assaulting a woman on her way to work in Manhattan at the Journal Square PATH station Sunday morning, according to a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Jimmy Phillips, 46, punched the 26-year-old woman in the head during her morning commute just before 8:30 a.m, cops said.

A witness snapped Phillip's picture and gave it to PA police.

Another witness later identified Phillips at the Hoboken PATH Station about 5:30 p.m. and he was arrested.

He then claimed to be the famed "Glory" actor, according to the PA cops.

After identifying him through fingerprints authorities said they discovered that Phillips had two active warrants.

Phillips was charged with assault and hindering apprehension, according to the Port Authority.
