ASTORIA — Cupcakes go well with a glass of milk, but how about a 5K run?

The first inaugural NYC Cupcake Run is set to take place in Astoria Park this month when a group of athletes with iron stomachs attempt to complete a race — while stopping to munch on cupcakes along the way.

The gut-busting event is the brainchild of Jason Feirman, founder of the pizza blog I Dream of Pizza who hosts the annual NYC Pizza Run, where joggers race through Manhattan’s Tompkins Square Park, stopping at checkpoints throughout the race to down a slice.

"I love eating and I love running, so back in 2010 I decided to combine these passions into a one of a kind New York City experience," Feirman said in a statement announcing the Cupcake Run.

This year, he decided to tweak the concept for Queens — this time starring dessert.

"After the success of the NYC Pizza Run over the past four years, I decided to add a second run for people with more of a sweet tooth," he said.

Participants in the Oct. 19 event will run two laps around Astoria Park, stopping at three cupcake checkpoints along the way.

The desserts for the race will be provided by local bakery Sweets First, at 35-04 35th St., which is known for its savory and unusual cupcake flavors.

There will be prizes, but the details have not been finalized.

Registration for the NYC Cupcake Run is $45 and includes a t-shirt, a "race bib," a cupcake gift bag and a complimentary drink at Astoria bar Rocky McBride's, which will host the after party.

A portion of proceeds from the race will go to New York Cares.
