MANHATTAN — A Greenwich Village apartment was burglarized early Wednesday morning by a man wearing white gloves who climbed a fire escape to break in, police said Thursday.
The thief broke into the home about 6 a.m. by climbing through a window next to a fire escape, cops said. He made off with jewelry and a laptop and exited through the building's front door, according to the NYPD.
Surveillance footage shows the burglar wearing white gloves, carrying a bag of loot.
No description of the burglar was provided, and it wasn't immediately clear if residents of the apartment were home at the time of the crime.
Burglaries in Greenwich Village, the West Village and the Meatpacking District have dropped about 5 percent this year through Sept. 22 compared with the same period last year, NYPD statistics show.
