BATTERY PARK CITY — An icy slice of winter magic is on its way to Battery Park City.

A new ice rink that will fit about 250 skaters at a time is opening in front of Brookfield Place’s Winter Garden in mid-November, Brookfield announced Tuesday.

Called The Rink at Brookfield Place, the 105-foot-by-70-foot expanse of ice will sit on the plaza between the Winter Garden and the North Cove Marina. It will be larger than Rockefeller Center’s rink, Brookfield said in a press release.

“Nothing can compare to skating outdoors with Lower Manhattan as your backdrop,” rink general manager Rob Miller said in a statement.

“We are proud to launch The Rink at Brookfield Place to the neighborhood in time for the holiday season, complete with fun and exciting family activities.”

The seasonal, open-air rink is set to run through mid-March and will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Each skating session will cost $12.50 per person. Skate rentals will be available for $5 and skate sharpening will run about $15, Brookfield said.

In addition to offering open skating sessions, the rink will also host hockey classes and various skating events, which are still being scheduled. Family seasonal passes for skating access will also be sold as well.

Brookfield, which is running the ice rink with Asphalt Green Battery Park City and Liberty View Ice Rink, hopes it will be a permanent, seasonal feature in Battery Park City.

Liberty View Ice Rink previously ran a rink nearby in Wagner Park last winter.

More details about the new rink's programming will be available later this month, Brookfield said.
