OCEAN BREEZE — Staten Island University Hospital will be honored by a civil rights organization next week for its efforts to serve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender patients.

The Human Rights Campaign chose the hospital, along with 463 others across the country, for an Equality Leader award because it provides inclusive care for LGBT patients and their families, the hospital said in a press release.

The hospital was praised for its patients' bill of rights, an equal visitation policy and staff training in LGBT patient care, according to the press release.

The Human Rights Campaign will present the award at a public ceremony on Oct. 1, from 3:50 to 5 p.m., at the Regina McGinn MD, Education Center in the hospital's north campus, at 475 Seaview Ave.
