QUEENS — Kew Gardens has popped the cork on its only wine bar.

Odradeks, a popular coffee shop on Austin Street known for its artsy ambiance and poetry readings, has recently added a selection of wines and beer to its offerings.

“I want to continue the same type of a vibe into the night,” said Jacob Ganz, 37, the owner of Odradeks. “And people don’t really drink too much coffee after 4 or 5 p.m.”

Patrons can now enjoy a glass of prosecco ($7 a glass; $30 a bottle), or they can share a bottle  of Goose Bay Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand ($35 a bottle), Weinstock Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley ($35 a bottle) and a sweet Baron Herzog Zinfandel from California ($30 a bottle).

Beer is also on the menu, including a variety of Belgian suds such as Troubadour Blond Ale ($8), Troubadour Magma Triple IPA ($8), Gulden Draak Dark Ale ($8) and Rodenbach Grand Cru Flemish Red Brown Ale ($18).

Ganz said he is also expanding the food menu to include items like tapas, cheese and crackers which patrons will be able to pair with wine and beer.

“We don’t want to be a bar nor a restaurant,” Ganz said. “And we don’t want to have noisy gatherings.”

He said he wants Odradeks to be “a quiet place with a nice subdued and relaxing kind of atmosphere" where patrons can "have a glass of wine with a friend or a date.”

Ganz said he is also planning to install wood floor and add new tables, to make the decor "a little more loungy and comfortable."

Odradeks, named after a creature from a short story by Franz Kafka, also extended its hours until 11 p.m. (Monday through Thursday). The coffee shop is now also open on Saturdays from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Odradeks Coffee House and Wine Bar is located at 82-60 Austin St. near the Kew Gardens LIRR train station.
