DITMAS — A man and woman were killed, and another woman was injured, in Queens after a motorcycle collided with a Nissan Xterra that was making a U-turn on Saturday afternoon.

The motorcycle driver, a 32-year-old man, and his passenger, a 36-year-old woman, were thrown from the bike at 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of 20th Avenue and 24th Street after the bike had clipped the SUV mid-turn, police said.

Rescuers found the man and woman unresponsive on the ground, and declared them dead at the scene of the Ditmars crash, police said.

The woman driving the SUV, 56, was rushed to Elmhurst Hospital Center and in stable condition. According to police, she had been headed westbound on 20th Avenue, and was in the midst of making a U-turn to head eastbound, when the motorcycle struck the Xterra.

Police sources said the motorcycle operator had not registered the bike, and had a suspended license, the NY Daily News reported.

The motorcycle's operator had been trying to speed up to pass the SUV before the driver had completed her turn, sources told the paper, but instead of passing her vehicle he clipped the side.

Grief-stricken family members told the paper the two riders were longtime friends. An investigation was ongoing Sunday.
