UNION SQUARE — Belmont Lounge remains shuttered more than two months after Health Department inspectors found evidence of mice and rats and then forced it close.
The bar and dance venue at 117 E. 15th St. near Irving Place was hit with 67 violation points during the city's inspection June 19 — the third time in just a few weeks that the Health Department had shut down the popular nightlife spot — and it still has not reopened.
Belmont’s phone number was disconnected, and the lounge did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
Health violations found in the most recent inspection also included dirty food surfaces, an inadequate plumbing system, cold food stored above 41 degrees Fahrenheit and a failure to produce a Food Protection Certificate, according to Department of Health records.
The Health Department had previously closed Belmont on May 24, citing the bar for 79 violation points including the workers' lack of cleanliness.
After the lounge reopened later that month, the city did another inspection on May 31 and closed Belmont again for evidence of mice and live roaches, records show.
Belmont Lounge offered seasonal cocktails and bar food including fried calamari and sliders, and it was known for hosting live music and having a back room with a dance floor.
