QUEENS — The subway rider who was raped and robbed in Rego Park Friday after being stalked for blocks and then tossed down a flight of stairs was nearly unconscious and bleeding all over her body when she was found, witnesses and sources said.
Building superintendent Eric Acosta, 28, who lives across the street from a building on Saunders Street, near 63rd Drive, said he heard the woman screaming for help about 10:45 p.m.
“When I reached her, she was naked and badly beaten,” he said. “She was bleeding from her face and elbow, her hip and knees."
"She said 'I was raped,'" said Acosta, who waited with her until cops and an ambulance arrived to the scene.
Adrian Ionas, 43, who was renovating an apartment in the building, also heard the screams. He said when he approached the woman, a passerby was already calling cops. “It was really terrible,” he said. “She was in shock,” he said about the victim.
The attacker, whom cops described as a man in his 20s, roughly 5-foot-7 with a mustache, was still at large, police said Monday.
The man allegedly followed the woman, 52, from the 63rd Drive-Rego Park subway train station where she got off an R train, and kept asking her for her name and phone number.
The victim refused and went into a Rite Aid on the corner of Queens Boulevard and 63rd Drive. The man followed her inside but then left and waited outside.
According to a report, the victim said the man continued to ask for her name and number and touched her and groped her. He even kissed her hand before she went into the store, she told ABC.
"He was saying, 'I'd like to see you. There's a connection between us. You seem special,'" she also told ABC. "He was saying to me, 'Oh, I love your shoes. Are you model? You look like a model.'"
She also said that she told one of the workers at the store that he should call the police.
The man later followed her after she turned into Saunders Street, only one block from Queens Boulevard.
He grabbed her and threw her down a flight of stairs at the building on Saunders Street, near 63rd Drive, cops said, and allegedly raped her. He then stole her purse, wallet and cellphone and fled.
Sources said the victim didn't remember what happened, but when she woke up, she was partially naked. She was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where she was treated and released.
Police have released surveillance video of the suspect entering the Rite Aid store.
Surveillance cameras installed on the building where the attack occurred also caught the suspect on video.
"You can see them walking and him pushing her into that corner," Acosta said.
Nanish Noyobshoeb, 23, a Rego Park resident, said the attack terrified her.
"I work at a coffee shop at JFK and I come back home around the time when it happened," she said. “I asked my friend to pick me up from the station at night from now on.”
