JACKSON HEIGHTS — A new self-serve frozen yogurt shop opened last week, bringing a burst of color and flavor to the 37th Avenue commercial strip.

Rainbowberry Yogurt opened Friday at the corner of 80th Street in Jackson Heights, in what used to be an Italian deli.

The fro-yo spot features 14 flavors, including low fat, non-fat and dairy-free options. Customers can mix and match flavors like sweet coconut, cheesecake and birthday cake — then really go wild with the over 35 toppings offered by the store, from fruit to sprinkles.

“The customer can decide how much they want,” said manager Alan Lin, 20, whose family owns the store that also offers smoothies and free Wi-Fi.

Lin, who is an accounting major at Baruch College, manages the store when he’s not in school.

This is the first business for his family, which lives in Flushing. They wanted to open a frozen yogurt shop, Lin said, because it’s fun and he hopes it will be a popular addition to the neighborhood.

Even though the store has only been open for a few days, business has already been great, Lin said.

“Sunday was crazy,” he added.

He came up with the colorful name because he'd like to serve up a variety of flavors, just like the rainbow. The anime-inspired decor inside the store was his idea, too, he said.

Madeline Benoit, who's lived in Jackson Heights since 1983, popped into the shop Monday to check it out.

“It’s a nice place, something new in the neighborhood,” she said, adding that it brings “great energy” to the strip of businesses in the landmark district.

Rainbowberry Frozen Yogurt is open seven days a week from noon to 11 p.m. They are offering 15 percent off all purchases through Friday as a special grand opening deal.
