FORT GEORGE — One uptown lounge is ending the summer with a bang.

Apt. 78 Bar and Lounge will celebrate the end of the season this weekend when it puts on its first ever Summer Series block party.

The free event, held this Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. will take over Dongan Place between Broadway and Arden Street and will feature musical performances by rapper Q-Tip and MTV "Washington Heights" star Audubon.

Bar owner Jose Morales said the block party is the culmination of Apt. 78's "Summer Series" of concerts, which have drawn crowds to the uptown bar all season long.

"Its a way to kind of end the series," said Morales. "We thought why not get a block party going?"

Although the block party is organized by a bar and includes the Dyckman Beer Company as a sponsor, Morales promises to hold a family-friendly event. No alcohol will be served, and Morales said the festival will feature attractions such as face-painting, bounce castle and free cotton candy for children

Two dental clinics will give hygiene lessons, and several other popular uptown vendors will be on hand as well, including Word Up Community Book Shop, Bread and Yoga, Scribble Art Workshop and Inwood's Mr. Nice Guy Food Truck.

Morales, who first started planning and applying for permits for the block party last year, has high hopes for the event.

"It hasn't really be done by any local business up here," Morales said.
