TRIBECA — Coffee is now on the menu at a popular TriBeCa wine bar.

The managers of shuttered TriBeCa coffee shop RBC NYC have opened a pop-up coffee bar, Box Kite Coffee, inside Maslow 6 at 211 Broadway.

The new cafe, which features Ritual Coffee from San Francisco and Michigan’s Madcap Coffee, as well as a rotating selection of roasters, is chance for Box Kite to have something of a “test kitchen” for its planned permanent space at 115 St. Marks Place, set to open in October, said Box Kite co-owner Cora Lambert.

“We’ve been friends with the owners of Maslow 6 for a while,” said Lambert, who was the coffee director at RBC NYC, at 71 Worth St., which closed in April 2012. “And using this great space, which is empty during the day, seemed like a perfect idea.”

Opening in the wine bar is also a good fit for Box Kite, Lambert said, since their in-the-works permanent cafe will experiment with pairing alcohol and coffee.

At the Box Kite pop-up, the baristas will soon offer a beer and espresso combination, with the beer served alongside a shot of espresso and a glass of seltzer, to wash it all down.

“It’s just a fun, interesting way to think about flavor when you pair the two,” said Lambert, a trained barista and bartender.

Box Kite also serves a unique 1+1 coffee "flight" — a shot of espresso with a separate macchiato, “to get that different taste sensation, of the coffee with or without milk,” Lambert said. All the espressos also come with an added bit of sweetness: a cookie on the side.

The shop, open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, is now selling a variety of pastries from Balthazar and will soon start offering lunch in the space.

Lambert plans to keep running the pop-up for the next several months.

"It's a fun experiment here," Lambert said. "We're really happy — it's a great space and great experience."
